The study on confirmation work was carried out for the first time in 2007/08 and thus provided an empirical picture of confirmation work in Germany for the first time. Not only confirmands, but also pastors and staff were interviewed in order to gain a comprehensive picture of confirmation work.
The second study (starting in 2012/2013) also aimed at gaining an insight into the long-term effects of confirmation work, especially with regard to voluntary commitment (e.g. as teamers in confirmation work), which are also important for the relationship between civil society and confirmation work or church. In the broadest sense, the question of the effects of confirmation work on church commitment and the commitment decisions of young people was also up for debate. This was followed by a study on voluntary work among young adults and its relation to confirmation work.
Both studies served to document, support and critically accompany the transition from confirmation lessons to confirmation work.
